Blankney Farm Update – 10 April 2024
The continued, sporadic wet weather continues to frustrate our team as we keep trying to establish our spring crops.
Commercial spring barley drilling was completed in February and in this last month, we’ve established the last two fields of spring barley, under-sown with grass and lucerne (companion cropping).
Sugar beet drilling has started….and stopped, with the wet weather!
We did manage to drill all of our vining peas in good conditions, over the Easter period and we thank our dedicated team who sacrificed their break to achieve this.
Winter crops – wheat, rye and barley look vulnerable, compromised and disappointing in terms of yield potential.
The analogy goes – “each year, we paint a canvas of our crops – this year, we want to tear it up and started again”.
Roll on Harvest!
