Blankney Farm Update – 15 July 2022
The rainfall we received in May and June seems to have only given temporary respite for our crops.
This week we have entered into a serious drought, with further hot conditions forecast. This will put pressure on our still, actively growing crops – grass, lucerne, sugar beet and maize.
We have started our cereal harvest early, following on from the good results of the vining pea harvest and our first and second cuts of grass. Our winter barley harvest is now complete, with yields 14% above our five year average. We are now busy combining spring barley – and winter wheat will not be far away!
