Blankney Farm Update – 16 August 2024
Combinable crop harvesting is underway and so far, the weather has been friendly. A lot of our crop has been cut dry and as a result, we are, so far, having a cheap harvest!
Spring barley yields on the Heath have been above average and winter wheat has also performed well on the Heath. Crops, so far, have good quality – apart from heavy land wheat – which is showing low levels of ‘ergot’.
The recent dry weather has meant we are irrigating grass. This is to ensure what will be our 6th cut of grass this year and we will most likely have a 7th cut on the majority of our fields.
