Blankney Farm Update – 16 January 2023
Sugar Beet harvest is now proving to be tricky, following the recent cold weather. We are having to take steps to deal with ‘frosted beet’ and as such, we are now only lifting in front of deliveries. The yields have been affected by the frost, as we now have to ‘top’ the beet harder.
Spring Barley drilling continues, following crop clearance, and we should be caught up drilling by early February, on all land available.
Reservoir filling is nearing completion – currently being helped by the recent wet weather.
Following evaluation work on the new ‘SFI’ (Sustainable Farming Initiative) Scheme, we have decided to submit an application. We will be entering the majority of our land parcels at the Intermediate level.
Finally – following the recent announcement regarding the Springwell Solar Farm Development – please visit this page on the Blankney website for further information. You will also find a link in the drop down menu at the top of this page.
