Blankney Farm Update – 2 August 2021
Since our last update, our vining pea crop has been harvested, with above average yields from this early vining slot.
Grass and lucerne harvest is proving to be a lengthy affair, with large forage yields, keeping the drying plant busy. We have already completed all of our animal feed contracts and are now concentrating on grass for chlorophyll production and lucerne for horse feeds.
Cereal harvest starts today and the first early drilled spring barley is yielding above our 5 year average – over 3 tonnes an acre.
The barley should be low in nitrogen and will be sent to make malt for brewing – hopefully the success of our olympians will see beer consumption continue!
