Blankney Farm Update – 26 June 2023
The extended dry period has been broken with 30mm of rain last week – sadly not in time to help our vining pea crop, which will, at best, be below average yield – after our harvest last week.
For the rest of our crops, the rain has come in time and we’re expecting a good harvest – the first of which was forage winter barley, which has come in at 8% above our 5 year average yield. The rye harvest starts this week and we’re presently busy harvesting sanfoin and lucerne.
Finally, we would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Bill Halliwell, who started his involvement with us 45 years ago – soil sampling in a state of the art Mini, with the added luxury of its own radio! We wish Bill a very happy retirement.
