Blankney Farm Update – 28 October 2021
Since our last update, we have now completed our forage maize harvest, with average yields of 38 tonnes per hectare at 34.75% dry matter, against a target of 33%.
Sugar beet harvest has now started but has been slow so far, with processing issues at British Sugars’ Newark factory.
Autumn drilling has gone well and the weather this year has been cooperative. Forage rye and barley has been established in good conditions and on time.
Wheat on our heavier soils was drilled in the second week of October, using two existing 8 meter drills and a recently acquired 6 meter drill. This additional drilling capacity has led to good establishment and we now will be drilling wheat on our light soils, following Lucerne and sugar beet.
