Blankney Farm Update – 3 September 2024

Our combinable crop harvest was trouble free – and dry – so, a very cheap one!

Wheat was excellent after a range of drilling dates on the Heath and this has propped up our heavy land fields, which have seriously underperformed.

Light land wheat was 10% above the 5-year average, whilst heavy land was 35% below. This clearly demonstrates what happens to waterlogged soils.

Spring barley was 15% above our 5-year average – dried peas 18% – spring beans 9%.

Grass, lucerne and timothy grass harvesting continues to go well. Our stores are now rapidly filling up, with two months grass drying to go; we will definitely have a storage challenge, but it is a nice problem to have!
