Blankney Farm Update – 30 November 2022
Winter cereal establishment has gone well and our crops are entering the winter period in good condition. We can be confident, at this stage, of good yields.
The crop drying season is now complete. It has been a difficult year with the drought conditions and high temperatures, which led to the challenge of drying and then safely cooling the produce. Yields have recovered with the prolonged, mild autumn, but we still finish 11% below our rolling average on both grass and lucerne.
Our sugar beet harvest continues and our yields have been good – while a bit of a surprise, shows the benefit of a crop with a long growing season.
Earlier this month we hosted a bonfire and fireworks evening on the Estate, organised by the Harmston Young Farmers – our local YFC group. The event was a massive success and we were delighted to hear that so many had a good night.
