You could not have written a better script for the most dificult and unhelpful weather pattern for crops, even if you tried.
Crop development was massively affected this year. Our main combinable crop harvest has been seriously impacted – anything from 5-30% down on yield, averaging out at 20% across all crops. Harvest is now complete and we move forward to the sugar beet, maize and final lucerne and grass harvests.
The maize crop may be the only crop to outperform its average yield. Does this say something about climate change? After all, 10 years ago, we were deemed to be “too far north” to grow the crop successfully…
